Proposal abstract :
Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) seeks a $5,000 Wabash Center small project grant to support a faculty-centered discovery process that strengthens pedagogical leadership amid profound institutional change. As CTS navigates shifts in enrollment, accreditation, and theological education, this initiative will provide space for deep listening, reflection, and dialogue at our 2025 faculty retreat. A facilitated luncheon conversation—anchored by President Brad Braxton and guided by Wabash Center prompts—will explore how faculty are responding to rapid developments, including the ethical and pedagogical implications of generative artificial intelligence. Guest participant Michael Hanegan will frame these discussions through the lens of theology and technology. Stipends, meals, and support for notetaking will ensure robust engagement, and follow-up conversations will include any faculty unable to attend. This process will inform CTS’s strategies for adapting curricula, cultivating community, and equipping faculty to teach boldly in a changing world rooted in justice, inclusion, and theological imagination.
