Wabash Center Welcomes Dr. Rachelle Green as Associate Director
Crawfordsville, IN – January 13, 2025 – The Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion, a leader in the cultivation of dynamic pedagogies at the post-secondary level, announces the hiring of Rachelle R. Green, PhD to serve as its new Associate Director.
Dr. Green holds a PhD in Religion from Emory University and comes to the Wabash Center from Fordham University where she is Assistant Professor of Practical Theology and Education teaching courses such as “Foundations of Religious Education,” “Religion and Criminal Justice,” “Research Methods in Religious Education,” and many other courses of notable salience to the mission of the Wabash Center.
In addition, her scholarship, teaching, and directing of the Certificate in Theological Studies Program in a prison for women have immersed her in carceral spaces on which she has frequently written and presented including her recent participation on a Wabash Center panel at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature entitled “Teaching in Death-dealing Contexts: Prison as a Place of Liberative Education.” It is also the subject of her recent book entitled, Learning to Live: Prisons, Pedagogy, and Theological Education (Baylor University Press, 2024).
Not limited to accomplishments in the academy, Dr. Green also brings extensive project management and administrative oversight experience from her previous work in the private sector overseeing multi- million-dollar marketing initiatives for Proctor and Gamble.
Dr. Green possesses an exceptional foundation for the task of facilitating various Wabash Center initiatives including bringing her unique perspective to the facilitation of our gatherings and overseeing the vital work of resource development to strengthen teaching and the teaching life.
Of the hiring, Dr. Nancy Lynne Westfield, Director of the Wabash Center, remarks that “the work of the Wabash Center is evolving and deepening. Dr. Green will make a significant contribution to the management of our current work, as well as assist us in needed ways to pivot and adjust our work for our shifting constituencies.
