November 2008
The Wabash Center Mourns the Loss of Bill Placher, Advisory Chair and Liaison to Wabash College.
Bill Placher, friend, colleague, and Advisory Committee chair, died November 30, 2008 while in Collegeville, MN on sabbatical. Bill was a long-time presence and influence at the Wabash Center. As a teacher of theology at Wabash College, he led one of the first workshops with founding director, Raymond Williams, which gathered 15 theologians to talk about “Teaching Theology and Religion.” Alongside the second director, Lucinda Huffaker, Bill provided insight as the Center grew and expanded its vision. In recent years he has served on the Advisory Committee, provided oversight for the grant program, and chaired the 2006 Director Search Committee. Wise, self-effacing, gentle — yet clear — in his critiques, Bill will be sorely missed by us all. Pursuant to Professor Placher’s wishes, memorial gifts may be made to Wabash College, care of the Advancement Office.
