Native American Sweat Lodge Ceremony (Don Cardinal)
Directions:
• Glen Cove Rd. north until it ends (stoplight) at firehouse in Glen Cove (note: just before Glen Cove there will be a fork. Take the left fork, which says Route 107). You will see signs for Garvies Point along this route.)
• Right turn on Brewster St. Go three stoplights (less than 1 mile)
• Left turn on Cottage Row (note "Eva's Lantern" Chinese restaurant on corner) until stoplight
• Left turn on Landing Lane (note: Landing Lane veers right at the fork after you turn) Take Landing Lane until it ends
• Left turn on Germaine St. one block
• Right turn on McLoughlin St. a very brief block
• Left turn on Barry Dr. to entrance of Garvies Point
• Park in the parking lot and walk down the trail to the left side of the museum. Before long you will find Don's sweat lodge. There are rest rooms in the museum.
Comments:
1. The sweat ceremony is very hot. I suggest you wear as little as you are comfortable with. For men, a pair of shorts is the most practical. For women, some sort of wrap-around sarong or loose fitting dress is practical. Nothing on your feet, please, in the lodge (believe me, you won't want anything on them). Come in layers, so you are not cold while waiting.
2. Bring a change of clothing. You will be soaking wet at the end. Bring a towel. You may also want a small towel to take with you in the sweat. There is a bathroom in the museum near the parking lot.
3. Don is a Cree holyman who depends on gifts and donations to continue his lodges. Since this is voluntary, I ask you to make a donation and suggest $20 (think, you would spend more than this having dinner and drinks). I will have an envelope there for all of us to put our contribution for Don in.
4. We will be making individual offerings of tobacco and fruit, which will be provided. If you want to contribute a small packet of loose tobacco or an orange, please do so.
5. No one has yet passed out or been harmed in these sweats, but if you have any kind of health condition that requires special consideration, I suggest you contact your physician for advice. This is a voluntary event, not sponsored by Hofstra University. Don't do it unless you really want to.

TBA
Hanuman Hindu Temple
Directions: from campus:
1. Take Hempstead Turnpike west
2. Turn left on Peninsula Blvd.
3. Turn left on Henry St. (soon after Front St.)
4. Turn left on Jerusalem Ave.
Temple is former YMCA -- first building on left. You can park on street or in back (drive is to left of building) of the temple.
Time: Service starts about 7:30 pm. Whoever needs a ride should meet outside Heger Hall (west entrance) no later than 7:10 pm. Otherwise just show up at the temple. They know we are coming.
Advice: We will be leaving our shoes in the cubby holes after entering the building. You don't actually enter thru the front door, but through a door just to the right of the front door. Go through this and turn left and left again. Go through lobby and turn right into the main room. Men will sit on left and women on right. We will be sitting on the ground. Sit as close to the front as you wish. Enjoy your curry dinner afterwards.
