For the second formal writing assignment you may do either one of the following:
Do a short story modeled on the style of The House on Mango Street on you own home, house, family and neighborhood. This can either be fictionalized or based on your actual experiences.
Write a reflective essay on the themes of home, house, family and neighborhood based on your experiences. If you choose this option you should also compare and/or contrast your situation with that of Esperanza in The House on Mango Street.

Two drafts of the paper will be required.
Deadlines:
The first draft of the paper will be due on Tuesday, November 23. Remember to provide one copy for the professor and one copy each for the members of your peer reading group. Retain one copy for yourself.
The peer groups will meet during class on Tuesday, November 30 to discuss your paper. I will return my annotated copy at the end of this class.
The final draft of the paper will be due to the professor on Tuesday, December 7.
Helpful Hints:
The same as for the first formal writing assignment.
Make use of your Thanksgiving break to talk to folks at home. This might help your paper.
Get started as early as possible. You might even want to turn in an early first draft to the professor. This assignment is close to the end of the semester when things tend to pile up for students.
